A powerful bullish reversal pattern consisting of three consecutive long-bodied bullish candles, each opening within the previous body and closing at new highs.
Three White Soldiers is a three-candle bullish reversal pattern that appears at the bottom of a downtrend. It consists of three consecutive long-bodied bullish (green/white) candles, each opening within or near the body of the previous candle and closing at progressively higher highs.
The pattern gets its name from its appearance - three tall bullish candles marching upward like soldiers advancing in formation. Each "soldier" represents a session where buyers took decisive control, creating a stair-step progression of higher prices.
Three White Soldiers tells a story of sustained buyer conviction over multiple sessions. Unlike single-candle reversals that can be anomalies, this pattern shows that buyers are not just stepping in - they're dominating for three consecutive periods.
Day one: After a downtrend, buyers emerge and push price significantly higher. Day two: Instead of a pullback, buyers return with the same or greater force, opening within the previous body and closing at new highs. Day three: The same pattern repeats, confirming that momentum has decisively shifted.
The small upper wicks show sellers are unable to push back meaningfully. The consecutive higher closes demonstrate growing confidence. This combination sends a powerful message: the bears have lost control, and a new bullish trend may be beginning.
Conservative: Enter on a pullback to the midpoint of the third candle body.
Aggressive: Enter on the close of the third candle or on break above its high.
Place stop below the low of the first soldier. This is the origin of the reversal - if price returns there, the pattern has failed.
T1: Previous swing high or nearest resistance level. T2: Measured move equal to the pattern's height projected upward. T3: Use trailing stop for trend continuation.
Minimum 1:2 R:R required. Pullback entries typically offer better R:R than breakout entries.
Three White Soldiers is most powerful when it appears after a clear downtrend at a key support level. The context determines whether it's a high-probability reversal or a potential trap.
Watch for exhaustion. If the third soldier has a long upper wick or is significantly smaller than the first two, the rally may be running out of steam.
